Finance jobs professionals warned to take care over tax repayments Professionals with office-based roles such as finance jobs in London should take extra care when it comes to their tax payments, an expert in the field has advised.

According to John Whiting, tax policy director at the Chartered Institution of Taxation (CIOT), it may be risky for taxpayers to "trust the system" in getting their figures correct.

Mr Whiting went on to say that many workers incorrectly assume that PAYE will never make any mistakes in processing income tax payment schedules, meaning that they could face an unpleasant financial surprise at some point in the future.

Therefore, he noted that individuals must stay on top of their structure and not simply assume this will be done for them by HM Revenue & Customs.

These comments came after the publication of research by Unbiased last week (February 28th 2011), which showed that some £13.5 billion will be handed over to the taxman by Britons unnecessarily in 2011.
