Older workers 'more valuable to companies in times of strife' Older employees are more valuable to companies offering roles such as accountancy jobs in the City of London in times of adversity, it has been said.

According to Rachel Krys, director of Inclusive Employers, the experience of older workers can prove invaluable to a firm in difficult phases and such professionals have proven this by responding better to the recent global monetary slump.

"In the recession, if some of your employers have worked through recessions before, they will have a very different response to it to those that haven't it," Ms Krys noted.

The expert went on to state that a state of "pure panic" set in among younger workers when the latest recession took hold due to the fact that they had taken notice of the "doom-laded" media coverage of the crisis.

However, those individuals who were active in the jobs market during the recessions of the 1970s and 1990s were much calmer about the situation, she added.

This comes after the Office for National Statistics showed recently that the number of people in employment aged 65 and over increased by 56,000 on the three months to January 2011.
