Flexibility in IT consultancy 'could boost number of female workers'If flexible working rules were to be extended to IT consultancy jobs, this could increase the number of female workers in the sector, it has been suggested.

Maggie Berry, managing director of Women in Technology, has stated that having more flexibility in this industry would "make a significant difference to the presence of women in IT".

She maintained that this is not a regulation that should occur simply as a theory, but ought to be implemented so that employees can "really take advantage" of it.

Flexible working would encourage more females to the sector as it would allow them to balance a career with their family life as well, Ms Berry went on to say.

This comes after the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills revealed that it would no longer be extending flexible working policies to mothers and fathers of children over the age of 17.

It was due to allow parents to request remote working from April 6th 2011 but has revoked the regulations in a bid to reduce red tape.
