More support should be given to encourage women to take up roles such receptionist jobs, it has been said. The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has stated that the Budget, which was announced earlier this week (March 23rd 2011) by chancellor George Osborne, did not do enough to address the problem of inequality in the workplace. Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, said the only step the government took was to scrap dual discrimination regulations. He also noted that the changes to personal tax allowance is likely to give more male employees an advantage as many females are often in part-time office jobs and may not qualify. "The chancellor's Budget ... forgot women and does nothing to address inequality," Mr Barber went on to say. He also stated that the financial plans had not gone far enough in looking at problems of working conditions and spending cuts for businesses. Psoted by Mary King
