Businesses 'can still keep employees motivated without pay rises' Businesses with staff fulfilling roles such as accountancy jobs can still offer motivation to their employees, despite the fact they are operating under tight financial constraints following the recession.

That is the opinion of Charles Cotton, performance and reward adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), who has said that giving workers the opportunity to gain from any future success the firm may enjoy can be a good way of compensating for a lack of pay rises.

Mr Cotton noted that one way of doing this could be to "offer them some shares in the organisation" in lieu of an increase in their salary, meaning they can "cash in" when the company becomes profitable again.

"You could also offer some sort of profit share when you return to profit," he added.

This comes after David Cameron earlier this week (March 29th 2011) spoke of his support for the new Employee Engagement Task Force.
