Firms 'recognising benefits of flexible working' Companies offering office-based roles such as finance jobs in London are beginning to recognise the way in which flexible working can benefit both them and their members of staff.

That is the view of Adrienne Burgess, head of research at the Fatherhood Institute, who said that managers are now taking into account the multi-faceted nature of workers' lives in their staff management techniques and policies.

"Employers are becoming aware of the fact that people have other lives and that to keep the brightest and the best you need to be flexible," she noted.

As a result of this, a growing number of bosses are more "tolerant" of requests from employees to take extended periods of absence for reasons such as parental leave and sabbaticals.

This comes after research by uSwitch.com published last week (March 31st) revealed that 39 per cent of owners of small and medium-sized enterprises believe such firms should be exempt from forthcoming changes to paternity leave rules.
