Smaller companies offering office-based roles such as finance jobs in London may be negatively affected by the number of regulations originating from the EU that are being implemented into UK law. That is according to John Walker, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), who said that such organisations will be hit hard by the introduction of measures such as the Agency Workers Directive and Parental Leave Directive. Mr Walker explained that these rules cause both additional cost and red tape for businesses, prompting him to urge the government to seek stronger alterations to the way in which the EU creates these rules. "If the burden of unnecessary regulation is lifted from small businesses, they would be free to get on with creating wealth, jobs and growth," he added. Recently, Charles Cotton of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development advised companies to offer other benefits to employees if they can't afford pay rises. Posted by James Strang
