An increasing number of companies offering roles such as business development jobs in the City of London are becoming more receptive to the idea of permitting their workers to take paternity leave. This is the view of Adrienne Burgess, head of research at the Fatherhood Institute, who noted that the attitudes of bosses towards males taking absence soon after their child is born have "gone a long way" in the previous ten years. Ms Burgess explained that the way of thinking in both employees and their firms has evolved drastically in recent times, representing a "positive shift" in the internal policies implemented by organisations on such matters. She went on to say that the "negative press" and "hoo-ha" which greeted the idea of men taking paternity leave a decade ago is unlikely to be repeated. A recent study by uSwitch.com showed that 59 per cent of males are planning to take advantage of new paternity leave legislation. Posted by Daniel Frost
