Many companies with employees fulfilling roles such as finance jobs in London are continuing to miss out on the benefits offered by flexible working due to their outdated attitudes towards such practices, an expert has said.Shirley Borrett, development director at the Telework Association, noted that a large proportion of firms still regard these policies as exclusively for those with responsibility for dependent people and added that only "enlightened organisations" use them properly. Ms Borrett explained that managers across all sectors need to recognise the positive influence flexible working can have on the productivity and morale of their staff base. "We have this notion that carers and parents deserve flexible working - but what about all those people that don't have children? They still deserve a life," she stated. The Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development recently urged the government to extend the right to flexible working to all as soon as possible. Posted by Mary King
