Employers such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering roles such as business development jobs must be willing to be unconventional in their management style in order to maximise productivity from their workers. That is the view of Roger Harrop, business expert and international speaker, who noted the post-recession landscape dictates that senior figures within organisations across all sectors be willing to change the way in which they treat their members of staff. Mr Harrop cited the example of Microsoft Holland, a branch of the renowned computer firm that has "transformed" its working style in recent times, which has resulted in it becoming "the most productive Microsoft company in the world". He noted that employees there are "solely judged on results", meaning they are allowed to "work what hours they want, when they want". This comes after research by the University of Bristol suggested that firms should encourage workers to walk or cycle to their offices to increase productivity and morale. Posted by Daniel Frost
