Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) offering roles such as accountancy jobs may find it difficult to access finance from banks and building societies in the coming months, it has been suggested.According to Phil McCabe, spokesman at the Forum for Private Business, the worldwide monetary slump has resulted in many companies being denied loans and such from financiers looking to tighten up their lending criteria in the wake of the recession. "Small firms are still struggling to even get in a situation where they can negotiate funding from the major banks," he explained. Mr McCabe went on to note that the "erosion of local decision making" has made it more difficult for institutions to "judge risk accurately" with regard to lending. This follows on from Roger Harrop, business expert and international speaker, urging SMEs to become more innovative in their approach to business in order to get the most out of their employees.
