AWR 'will not be welcomed by employers' The government's decision to implement its Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) into British law will not be well received by several employment sectors, an expert has said.

In news which may be of note to businesses offering finance jobs in London, Gerry McLaughlin of online resource IT Contractor believes this legislation will cause problems for all kinds of companies, as it is seen as something of a "baby sister for the hated tax" IR35.

Under the terms of the new rules, which come into effect on October 1st 2011, firms will be compelled to give the same rights to agency staff as their full-time workers once they have been with their organisation for a period of 12 weeks.

However, Mr McLaughlin explained this will result in unwanted issues for a wide range of bodies.

"Most contractors would rather just be left alone without IR35 and without the AWR perks and protection and simply all trade as limited companies," he added.
