Flexible working 'should be promoted differently' Bosses of companies offering roles such as business development jobs in London should be aware that flexible working benefits them as well as their employees.

That is according to Peter Thomson, director of research at the Telework Association, who has called on the government to do more in order to promote such practices as working from home is still widely misconceived as only "family-friendly stuff".

Mr Thomson noted that flexible working "often gets associated with the whole idea of maternity and paternity benefits" when, in actual fact, it is a positive thing for all employees, regardless of their personal circumstances.

Last week (May 16th), the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills launched a consultation on proposals to introduce a new system of flexible parental leave as of 2015 to create "a modern workplace for the modern economy".

However, the expert insisted this need not be limited solely to those with children and therefore should be promoted differently.
