Expert: Now is the time for managers to show leadership skills Managers of companies performing roles such as finance jobs in London should be coming to the forefront of their organisation in the wake of the worldwide monetary slump.

That is the view of Ruth Spellman, chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), who believes that the current economic landscape is the ideal platform upon which bosses can demonstrate their ability.

Ms Spellman explained that senior officials within firms are likely to have noticed their workplace becoming quite subdued in recent times due to the added pressure exerted on organisations by the recession.

Therefore, she stated that "the opportunity is there for managers to really demonstrate real skills of management and leadership at the moment".

"The truth is the managing chain agenda has got a lot more complex," the expert added.

Recently, the CMI revealed that 70 per cent of managers feel morale in their office has declined in the last six months.
