Govt 'should consider boardroom quotas' The only way to ensure females are adequately represented in senior roles of companies offering positions such as business development jobs is through the introduction of quotas.

That is the opinion of Preethi Sundaram, policy and campaigns officer at the Fawcett Society, who feels action needs to be taken in this regard as women are still not filling enough such jobs.

Ms Sundaram explained that even though recent analysis into this issue "stopped short of recommending quotas" and a system would be unpopular in some quarters, all available evidence points to the fact that this is "the only sure-fire way to ensure more women reach the boardroom".

The expert went on to say that there needs to be greater awareness levels in terms of how many inequalities women face in the workplace.

Her comments came after the release of research by Marie Claire and Everywoman, which found that many women feel they still face disadvantages in their jobs.
