Companies 'will benefit from flexible working' Companies with employees such as office staff in London would benefit greatly if they allowed their workers greater levels of flexibility.

That is according to Peter Thomson, director of research at the Telework Association, who has insisted that such practices can help firms across all fields to increase their output while simultaneously reducing costs in the wake of the recession.

Mr Thomson explained that home-working entails "clear financial benefits for employers, public or private sector", as workers tend to be "significantly more productive when they are working from home rather than a noisy, open-plan office".

He went on to note that this could also result in companies offering an improved service to their customers, many of whom now demand services outside of normal office hours.

In an article for the London Evening Standard last week (June 1st), transport secretary Philip Hammond indicated that the government will be working with businesses to facilitate flexible working during the 2012 Olympics.
