Govt 'should change approach to pay and pensions' Professionals in office job roles would see their standard of living rise if the government changed its approach towards important issues such as pensions and pay.

That is the view of Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), who believes that the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance should be more proactive when making policy relating to these matters, as doing so would help to rouse demand in the economy.

Mr Serwotka advised the coalition that it can play a major role in Britain's financial rejuvenation in the wake of the recession by implementing new guidance on issues such as tax evasion.

Last week (June 2nd), data released by the Incomes Data Services showed that the median pay award for professionals in the private sector in the opening quarter of 2011 was three per cent.

However, the expert suggested this figure could grow further if the government encouraged "pay, benefit and pension rises".
