Businesses and banks 'must find common ground' Companies such as London recruitment agencies and the UK's banking sector should look to work more closely together in order to help the country's economic recovery.

This is according to Phil Orford, chief executive of the Forum of Private Business (FPB), who said yesterday (June 7th) that the business and financial markets must put their differences aside and instead seek common ground.

There has been much disgruntlement among firms in recent times with regard to the perceived unwillingness of financers to lend the necessary capital for them to grow in the wake of the recession.

However, during a speech at the Better Business Finance conference in Manchester, Mr Orford insisted "the time has come to acknowledge the issues and to find ways to move forward constructively and collaboratively" for the good of the nation.

Recently, the government called on the major banks involved in the Project Merlin initiative to increase their commitment to small business lending.
