Jobseekers 'must have a positive mindset to be successful' Professionals searching for office jobs through London recruitment agencies must be in a positive frame of mind if their hunt is to be successful, an expert in the field has noted.

It could be said that the UK's employment market has never been more competitive than it is at present, as the global economic downturn has resulted in fewer attractive roles for professionals being available as many companies seek to reduce their outgoings.

However, individuals should not make the mistake of thinking it is impossible to get a job in the current climate, as there are positions out there for the best candidates.

Of course, such roles are hugely coveted at present, meaning professionals may need to give themselves an edge over other candidates in order to help them stand out from the crowd.

And, according to Denise Taylor, an award-winning career coach as well as a chartered psychologist and author of How to Get a Job in the Recession, being persistent and having a can-do attitude may provide this.

Ms Taylor explained that during this "challenging" period, it can be easy for people scouring the market for jobs to simply "give up".

She added it is also important for individuals to have thick skin as a certain number of rejections are almost inevitable before securing an interview as without this mindset, they can enter a downward spiral where they "expect to fail".

The expert went on to note this process can best be described as a "self-fulfilling prophecy" as "if you are going to fill in a new application, apply for a job or go for an interview and think 'I'm just not going to get it,' that's what happens".

Therefore, it is imperative for jobseekers to head into the applications process thinking "yes I can do it", Ms Taylor concluded.
