Bosses 'must be aware of workplace stress' Companies with people fulfilling roles like finance jobs in London need to make sure they are fully aware of any anxiety among their staff.

That is according to Debbie Meech, people director for telecoms firm Cable & Wireless Worldwide, who believes that all bosses need to be switched on to the fact that some of their workers are likely to be suffering with workplace stress in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.

Ms Meech explained this should be a "key consideration when it comes to allocating resources to support wellbeing" among employees, as the recession has been "hard" and has caused many people to feel under intense pressure in their job.

"Employers need to closely monitor any signs of plummeting wellbeing, such as an increased absence level," she added.

This comes after the GfK NOP International Employee Engagement Survey 2011 showed that 24 per cent of workers in their 60s in the UK regularly experience workplace stress.
