Employers with people working as admin staff and other professions have to try and prevent stress from occurring. This is according to Kevin Friery, clinical director at Right Corecare, who stated that prevention is "far better and far more effective" than a cure. Companies should look to be proactive in this area in order to help individuals deal with situations that could cause worry. "What you need to do is develop skills in people to help them cope - and they are life skills," Mr Friery observed. He continued by saying that merely helping workers through individual circumstances will not stop similar types of problems from happening again. Last month, research from the London School of Economics and Political Science found that effectiveness in helping employees achieve a good work-life balance should be included in managers' performance appraisals. This is because stress and health-related absenteeism is thought to cost the UK economy £11 billion a year. Posted by Mary King
