CIPD: Employers must manage older workers betterMany companies need to enhance their internal policies when it comes to managing workers such as experienced sales staff, new research has suggested.

According to a study published yesterday (June 20th) by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), a lot of bosses tend to neglect their older employees in terms of conducting performance reviews and training.

The body's Employee Outlook: Focus on an Ageing Workforce called on firms to revamp their methods in this regard sooner rather than later, as the forthcoming abolition of the default retirement age will cause them problems if they fail to do so.

For instance, this survey - which involved questioning 2,000 employees - established that 44 per cent of all workers over the age of 65 have not had a formal appraisal of their performance in the last two years.

Recently, the Institute of Directors noted that many companies will struggle to cope with the implementation of auto-enrolment pensions in 2012.
