| Expert urges managers to communicate on summer dress codes |

Managers must communicate clearly with their office jobs workers in order to avoid any potential disputes on dress codes this summer, an expert has said.According to Charlotte Wolff, employment relations editor at XpertHR, it is imperative for bosses to found any decisions taken in this regard on solid business motivations if they are to experience full acceptance from their members of staff. Ms Wolff, who wrote XpertHR's 2011 report on employee dress, noted that around 50 per cent of all companies decide to relax their requirements on the clothes workers are permitted to wear in extreme weather conditions. She added that as summer approaches, the time when managers need to act is drawing closer, meaning they must be willing to discuss the matter with staff sooner rather than later. "If the employer decides to relax the code in particularly hot weather they should inform all staff ... and make it clear what the parameters are," the expert stated. Posted by James Strang
