Office jobs workers 'can contribute to own stress' Experienced sales staff struggling with stress in their workplace may be contributing to their own feelings of anxiety, an expert has suggested.

According to Terri Bodell, the self-titled Stress Doctor, employees feeling the pressure in their office job following the global economic downturn can unwittingly make their situation worse by the issue becoming a "self-fulfilling prophecy".

Ms Bodell explained it is easy for stressed individuals to have low self-esteem, which then translates into a cycle of negativity surrounding their whole professional outlook.

For instance, she noted that anyone concerned about the possibility of being made redundant is "less likely" to be doing their job to the best of their ability, which can then result in "silly mistakes" being made.

With this in mind, the specialist urged employees to "think proactively" about ways they can deal with stressful situations.

Research published last week (June 17th) by the Chartered Management Institute established that 39 per cent of workers feel their anxiety is heightened by the behaviour of their boss.
