Expert: Integration is key with social media business strategies Companies with experienced sales staff need to make sure they treat their social media strategies as just another aspect of their business plan.

That is the view of Tim Gibbon, director of communications at consultancy Elemental, who believes that integration is key when it comes to managers being able to successfully facilitate this new professional tool.

Mr Gibbon explained marketing tactics on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook should be regarded as separate to more traditional methods and urged bosses to avoid the "knee-jerk reaction" of creating a specific "social media department ... and a social strategy".

Instead, the expert insisted using these strategies so they are seamlessly incorporated "into the operations of the business" is the way forward.

Research published earlier this week (June 27th) by Regus showed that small and medium-sized enterprises are using social networking sites to acquire new customers with greater success than their larger competitors.
