Effectively engaging their professionals in office jobs is crucial if managers want to see their business grow in the wake of the global economic downturn. That is the suggestion of Ben Sillitoe, editor of industry publication Retail Gazette, who has said that employee engagement is "absolutely essential for the overall success" of a company in any field. However, Mr Sillitoe urged bosses not to make the mistake of thinking this facet of management is based solely around money, as the creation of a workplace that has top-notch communication and maximised productivity between members of staff "is not just achieved through higher salaries, bonuses and perks". The expert noted that other factors like putting together "the right working environment" and keeping workers informed on how a firm is performing are just as important as financial rewards. Last week (June 23rd), the Society for Human Resource Management revealed that employee engagement is the top human resource challenge organisations anticipate facing in the next three to five years.
