Bosses advised to create a formal dress code Office staff in London will benefit if their employer creates formal rules that relate to their contract in terms of workplace dress code.

That is according to Charlotte Wolff, employment relations editor at XpertHR, who believes this could be an easy way for managers to avoid potential grievances and disputes with their workers.

Ms Wolff explained that proper communication is also crucial once this measure has been taken to ensure that all employees are aware of what is expected of them with regard to the clothes they wear.

"A formal policy ensures that all employees are clear about the dress code ... there are no grey areas," she added.

The expert went on to say that a "business casual" dress code is "notoriously hard to define", meaning clear regulations are the best way forward.

Recently, Melanie Stark, a sales assistant at London department store Harrods, claimed she was forced out of her job for not wanting to comply with the uniform stipulation of compulsory makeup.
