London recruitment agencies are making progress in helping the UK's employment market recover in the wake of the global economic downturn. That is the opinion of Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), who noted that while development is occurring in this sector, sluggish financial growth is restricting its pace. Mr Green explained that recruitment firms have pretty much managed to survive the "longest, deepest" recession in living memory, but added that consistent gross domestic product (GDP) expansion of just 0.4 per cent is stunting their rate of recovery. "What this means for us is no huge growth in new jobs created; there will be some, but not as many as clearly we would like," he added. These comments echo those made by Phil Flaxton of Work Wise UK, who recently said that the recruitment market is looking "cautiously upwards" after the slump. However, Mr Green concluded that accelerated growth will not occur until GDP expansion hits between 2.5 and three per cent. Posted by Mary King
