| Employees 'have neglected pensions throughout recession' |

Experienced admin staff operating in the City of London may have been guilty of neglecting their pension plan throughout the recession. That is because Tom McPhail, head of pensions research at Hargreaves Lansdown, believes employees have let saving for retirement slip down their list of priorities in the last few years. Research published earlier this week (August 1st) by the Workplace Retirement Income Commission indicated the government needs to do more in order to improve the current pension system for those operating in the private sector. The report showed that 14 million workers are not putting cash away for when they finish work at present, meaning urgent action from the administration is required. However, Mr McPhail stated the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance has already done a lot to enhance the pension system - through measures like auto-enrolment - and predicted a brighter future in this area. "In five years time the picture [will] look considerably better than it does today," he added. Posted by Daniel Frost
