Study: Many HR workers entered the profession by chanceMany professionals working in human resources (HR) office jobs entered their career accidentally, new research has shown.

According to a study conducted by XpertHR, nearly half - 45 per cent - of all respondents fulfilling roles in the field of HR went into this industry "by chance", while more than 80 per cent did not start off in this area, Personnel Today reports.

However, despite these figures, in excess of two-thirds of all workers in HR indicated they are "quite confident" about the fact there will be strong job prospects within the industry in the future as it continues its recovery in the wake of the recession.

This survey involved questioning more than 500 practitioners and also established that one of the primary reasons behind taking up a position in the sector was the fact it seemed like a natural progression.

Recently, Mike Emmott of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development called on the government to extend the right of flexible working to all workers.
