Managers 'must make sure interims fit with full-time staff' Managers considering the possibility of using London recruitment agencies to find new interim workers must make sure such professionals are compatible with their permanent members of staff.

That is according to Marc Lawn - managing director of online resource The Business GP, a body that offers advice to firms on how they can improve - who has insisted it is essential for full-time employees fulfilling office jobs to enjoy working alongside a temporary colleague.

Mr Lawn explained that if this is not the case, overall productivity within a workplace may decline - something that all bosses are desperate to avoid in the wake of the global economic downturn.

Following the recession, many organisations have decided to boost the number of interim staff they have at their disposal, as such individuals are regarded as an ideal way for firms to reduce their outgoings while not compromising on the quality of their work.

However, Mr Lawn stated this plan will not work unless senior management officials are sure temporary workers are well-matched with the rest of their company, in the same way that they would insist a permanent professional is a "strong cultural fit".

"Depending on the role you want that individual to play within a team, you have to take a lot more consideration of not just the functional expertise that you're trying to bring in but also the role that individual plays within the organisation," he added.

The expert went on to state that managers must be mindful of exactly what they want from an interim worker prior to appointing them, as they need to fulfil an important role if their recruitment is to be worthwhile.

Recently, Mike Emmott of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development urged the government to extend the right of flexible working to all employees sooner rather than later.
