Greater transparency and more flexible working practices are essential measures for managers looking to tackle gender inequality among their office jobs employees. That is according to a spokeswoman from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), who has urged all bosses to go about combating discrimination within their organisation with such methods. Last week (August 31st), the Chartered Management Institute revealed that males in senior management positions are, on average, paid £10,000 per annum more than their female counterparts. The EHRC official noted this is a clear indication that inequality still exists in the UK, but also insisted there are practical steps managers can take to reduce its prominence. For instance, businesses should have a "can-do" attitude towards flexible working practices for both men and women, while they also need "additional motivation" to be fairer with salaries if they are to be transparent about how much they pay members of staff.
