CBI: Businesses should not suffer from ICB reforms Companies such as London recruitment agencies should form a large part of the government's plans in terms of the implementation of banking reforms.

That is the opinion of Dr Neil Bentley, deputy director-general of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), who was speaking following the publication of the Independent Commission on Banking's (ICB) final report yesterday (September 12th).

Within this document, the ICB recommended measures that go beyond international consensus in terms of how financial market should be regulated.

For instance, the body believes all high street financiers should be made to ring-fence the funds of their personal banking customers from any investments made elsewhere in their organisation.

However, Dr Bentley has urged the administration to "rigorously examine how and when to implement these proposals", as businesses may suffer otherwise.

"The proposals on capital requirements are out of step with internationally agreed measures underway so will increase the cost of lending for UK businesses," he added.
