The growing number of businesses being based on the internet may not result in a significant upturn in the number of roles such as finance jobs in London being made available. That is the opinion of Phil Flaxton, chief executive officer of Work Wise UK, who believes it cannot be said with any great certainty that prospects for jobseekers will be enhanced by this trend. Earlier this month, Philipp Schindler, vice-president of Google Europe, indicated that despite the effects of the global economic downturn, some 365,000 new positions could be created over the next four years as more online companies are established and grow. Mr Flaxton disagrees with this notion, as he stated he would "err on the side of caution" with regard to how this will impact on the country's professional sector. "I can see a growth, but I am not sure it is going to lead to hundreds and thousands of jobs in the short-term," he added. Posted by Daniel Frost
