CBI chief criticises timing of AWR implementation London recruitment agencies are likely to see demand for their services subside following the implementation of the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR), a leading business official believes.

As of next Saturday (October 1st), companies will be legally obliged to offer the same employment rights to temporary employees as their permanent members of staff once they have been with their firm for a period of 12 weeks.

This represents a significant change to the country's business sector and John Cridland, director-general of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), has criticised the government for this measure.

Mr Cridland is quoted in the Financial Times as saying "there couldn't be a worse time" for the introduction of the "unwanted" AWR as employers are already having to focus on the abolition of the default retirement age.

He insisted the rules will act as a "further brake on jobs when the priority should be creating opportunities".
