DRA abolition 'an important step towards equality' PDF Print E-mail
DRA abolition 'an important step towards equality' Experienced professionals in roles such as finance jobs in London are set to enjoy better working conditions from tomorrow (October 1st).

That is the view of Michelle Mitchell, director of charity at Age UK, who has welcomed the imminent abolition of the default retirement age (DRA) as an important step towards ending inequality in the business sector.

The government decided earlier this year to scrap the DRA, meaning employers will no longer be able to enforce compulsory retirement on members of staff once they reach the age of 65.

And Ms Mitchell believes this measure may act as a major catalyst towards a more equal future as it will give senior professionals more freedom and choice.

"The end of the DRA is a victory for older workers who for too long have been consigned to the scrapheap for no reason other than prejudice," she noted.

Meanwhile, tomorrow also marks the day of the implementation of the new Agency Workers Regulations.
