Finance departments 'must work with payroll'Those with finance jobs in London might find they are required to help out their business's payroll department.

According to Vickie Moss, associate director of marketing and business development at The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP), the two areas must work together to benefit the company.

She claims: "Payroll is the largest expenditure of most organisations and as such, the finance director should take an interest."

Identifying how much the firm spends on providing salaries and using this information to make things more efficient is a wise move.

Ms Moss says this can be done to save money within a business without reducing headcounts.

"Payroll and finance are also often linked due to the transactional nature of their functions," she adds.

The CIPP carried out research earlier this year suggesting that just ten per cent of employers plan to allow workers to do their job on a flexible basis during the London Olympics in 2012.
