Promoting values 'crucial for positive workplace' Bosses of London recruitment agencies can help foster a positive working environment for their employees by making sure everyone is fully aware of the values of their company.

That is according to Wilson Wong, senior researcher at The Work Foundation, who believes ensuring members of staff respect the core principles of the organisation they represent is crucial for managers hoping to inspire an upbeat atmosphere.

In the wake of the global economic downturn, self-esteem and confidence among many professionals is understandably low as firms continue to implement pay freezes and redundancies, while also wanting their workers to do more with less.

For instance, Aviva's latest Health of the Workplace Report - which was published earlier this week (October 12th) - revealed that 60 per cent of all individuals currently work beyond their contracted hours on a daily basis, with 79 per cent stating this extra time is unpaid.

Meanwhile, 23 per cent of respondents indicated they feel stressed and 27 per cent noted they are always tired due to their professional responsibilities.

However, Mr Wong insisted that senior managers can still encourage positivity within their firm, as the onus to promote this sort of environment "ultimately lies with the leadership".

"Ensuring a clear, consistent message of the values of the organisation and for everyone to be held accountable to these is a necessary condition for a positive culture at the workplace," he added.

Nevertheless, the Work Foundation official admitted that achieving such an atmosphere is not an easy task in the present economic situation - particularly if bosses are more focused on company goals than the promotion of strong values.

Recently, a survey conducted by ORC International revealed that employee engagement in the UK is currently lower than ever, with less than half of all workers believing themselves to have a positive relationship with their managers.
