Govt 'should help medium-sized firms create jobs' Medium-sized businesses (MSBs) with professionals fulfilling finance jobs in London could play a huge role in driving the country's economic recovery.

That is according to a new report entitled Future Champions published by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) earlier this week (October 24th), which labelled such firms Britain's "forgotten army".

The leading business group stated that MSBs are being continually overlooked by the government in its plans to rejuvenate the nation fiscally, but insisted they could potentially boost the economy by as much as £50 billion before 2020.

With this in mind, the CBI has urged the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance to place greater emphasis on helping these companies following the recession by making a wider range of finance options available to them.

John Cridland - director-general of the CBI, which represents more than 240,000 firms - commented: "We should be championing, nurturing and encouraging our medium-sized firms so that more of them grow and create jobs."
