CIPD: Staff motivation vital after recession Managers of London recruitment agencies need to make sure they continually implement strategies to keep morale and motivation high among their members of staff.

That is the opinion of Dianah Worman, diversity adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), who believes this forms a crucial aspect of a bosses' role in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.

Following the recession, sentiment within workplaces across the country has understandably declined due to issues such as the prospect of redundancies and pay cuts as companies implement measures to reduce their outgoings.

This has helped create an environment in most of the business community whereby uncertainty, stress and strain are commonplace as professionals feel on edge and do not really know what is round the corner with regard to their future.

However, Ms Worman - whose organisation has more than 127,000 individual members - insists there are several measures senior officials can introduce at their office to try and make sure such feelings have a minimal impact on the wellbeing of their workers.

"In order to keep the traction going you have to have a variety of ways of stimulating the changes that need to be bedded down in businesses. The changes will have to happen constantly," she noted.

Ms Worman went on to say that giving individuals "recognition for achievement" is absolutely crucial to "keep energy levels up" and maintain high productivity in such testing economic times.

She continued by indicating that providing an environment whereby workers can maximise their potential is as hard now as it has ever been, meaning managers can simply not afford to "take their eye off the ball".

"If you want to be really successful as a business then the best way of doing that is helping to engage your employees," Ms Worman stated.

This comes after Wilson Wong of the Work Foundation urged bosses to emphasise the core values of their company to employees.
