Flexible working 'attracts best staff' Companies willing to offer their employees the chance to work flexibly will reap the benefits of being able to attract the best admin staff to their organisation, an expert believes.

According to Jonathan Swan, research and policy manager at Working Families, such practices are becoming increasingly popular among professionals in the wake of the recession.

Mr Swan explained there is a definite demand in the employment sector for flexible working and added individuals facing a choice over who to work for will usually opt for the firm offering "the best terms and conditions" relating to this.

Recent research by the Trades Union Congress showed that Britons now face an average annual commute time of around 200 hours - a figure that prompted Brendan Barber, general secretary of the body, to call for more flexibility.

And Mr Swan went on to say this practice is good for both workers and their companies, as productivity tends to rise when it is implemented.
