Innovative businesses given access to £158m govt fundBritish businesses have been given a welcome boost this month as the government has announced a £158 million investment in e-infrastructure.

The funding will be allocated to a number of businesses and research centres, delivering increased data storage and faster networks, making doing business in the UK more efficient.

Science-based businesses will particularly benefit, with £4.75 million going to the UK Space Agency to support the collection and storage of data from satellites, while £19 million will be spent on specialist supercomputers that will support physics, astronomy and climate change industries.

"Investment in high performance computing and increased data storage capacity is essential to ensure research in the UK remains at the cutting-edge in the most advanced areas and is capable of stimulating growth," commented minister for universities and science David Willetts.

"It signals once again Research Councils UK's commitment to supporting the best and the most innovative work and ensuring the future prosperity and wellbeing of the UK."

The news comes after Dianah Worman, diversity adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, told businesses searching for new employees at London recruitment agencies to be more innovative in order to succeed.
