More than one-third of managing directors work more than 50 hours a week, new research shows, illustrating the hard work they have to put in. Meanwhile, a quarter of the UK's managing directors work for more than 55 hours a week. These are the findings of workplace solutions provider Croner, which also revealed that despite the hard work Briton's senior staff put in to their job, their salary does not always reflect this. It revealed that the average salary for directors of small companies has fallen by 15 per cent over the past year, while managers of large companies have seen a slight increase of two per cent over the last 12 months. Indeed, 27 per cent of executive directors were found to have imposed a pay freeze this year on their own salary, with seven per cent taking a pay cut. "Despite recent reports that FTSE 100 bosses have seen a 49 per cent increase in their pay, our research clearly reveals this is not the case for the majority of directors in British boardrooms," commented Vivienne Copeland, head of reward at Croner. Senior staff in permanent recruitment in Central London were also found to earn around seven per cent more than those in the West Midlands, the research found. Posted by Daniel Frost
