British workers unsure how much pensions savings they haveOffice staff in London and other employees working in the UK are unsure about how much money they have in small workplace pension pots, according to new research.

A survey from Aviva reveals that almost half of British employees have more than one pension pot from working at numerous employers and 58 per cent are not sure about how much their pension savings amount to.

However, the findings also revealed that the majority of people (67 per cent) would like their pension to be kept in one place. Indeed, 96 per cent of staff said they would do this if it was easy to do.

The survey also suggests that workers are unsure whether or not they are putting away enough money each month to save for their retirement.

"There is a constant drumbeat about people not saving for retirement, which is valid. However, when you cannot track your savings in a simple way, it's very hard to know how much more you actually need for your retirement," said Paul Goodwin, director of workplace savings at Aviva.

Aviva is supporting the government's plans to allow automatic transfers of small pension pots between auto-enrolment schemes.
