London recruitment agencies prepare for AWR 'milestone'London recruitment agencies are gearing up to deal with any queries from workers regarding the Agency Work Regulations (AWR) tomorrow (December 24th).

The date marks a milestone for the regulations, which will have reached the end of the first 12 weeks qualifying period.

However, Tom Hadley, the director of policy & professional services at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), stressed that nothing "cataclysmic" is going to happen on this date, but said that it could act as "a prompt for recruiters to ensure that they are as prepared as possible to handle any queries or claims from workers".

"One priority is to have good internal mechanisms in place so that any misunderstandings about entitlements under the new regulations can be nipped in the bud," he explained, highlighting the importance of creating transparent communication channels between agencies and employers to avoid any tribunals.

This week the REC published its AWR Monitor, which shows that demand for temporary staff remains strong despite the AWR coming into force.
