Changes to the LEZ will require vans and minibuses to comply with emissions regulations.Changes to the London Emission Zone (LEZ) could affect companies that hire staff from London recruitment agencies as it may cost more to drive into the capital. From January 3rd, large vans and minibuses must comply with LEZ and meet the Euro 3 emissions standard for particulate matter or face a fine. Lorries, HGVs buses and coaches, meanwhile, must meet Euro IV, a tougher standard than the current Euro III. Natalie Chapman, head of policy for London at the Freight Transport Association, explained that many companies are replacing their fleets entirely to reduce their carbon emissions and travel in London. Retrofitting engines of existing vehicles is a less popular action, she said, while a few companies are distributing non-compliant trucks to operating centres outside the capital. "For tradespeople that operate vans which are over ten years old the LEZ will be much more of an issue and will almost certainly bring serious consideration to renewing old vehicles for operators keen to avoid a heavy fine," she added. Businesses that require staff to drive into London could consider adding electric or low emission vehicles to their fleet and qualify for a Greener Vehicle discount and be exempt from LEZ and the Congestion Charge.
