Are employers using psychometric tests properly? PDF Print E-mail
Are employers using psychometric tests properly? It has been found that some recruiters and HR departments are making some fundamental mistakes with the tests.

Employers have been urged to check how they manage psychometric tests in their recruitment activities as one specialist has uncovered instances of misuse.

Workplace assessment specialist Talent Q has claimed that some employers hiring staff from London recruitment agencies are making fundamental mistakes with psychometric tests in their quest to select the ideal candidates.

It found a need for greater communication with applicants about why they are being asked to take the tests, as well as offer feedback after conducting the assessments, in line with British Psychological Society rules.

Employers must also keep a centralised record of assessment data and explain to candidates why they were unsuccessful in their application to prevent wrongful blame of the tests.

"You want candidates to feel valued and engaged at all times, even if they will not be appointed," stressed Steve O'Dell, chief executive of Talent Q UK.

"The real way to deliver a great candidate experience that enhances your employer brand is to treat your job applicants with the same care and consideration as you would treat your customers, because many of them will actually be your customers."

HR departments will also have to handle new rules this year regarding auto-enrolment for workplace pensions.
