Businesses plan to recruit staff in 2012, REC says PDF Print E-mail
Businesses plan to recruit staff in 2012, REC saysBusinesses will look to permanent recruitment in Central London this year, although employers will exert some caution.

This is the latest finding from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's (REC) JobsOutlook.

It revealed that 63 per cent of employers plan to increase their workforce in the short term, a slight drop on last month's report. Many businesses are waiting for an upturn in the global economy before they have the confidence to plan any hiring activity in the long-term.

However, employers did highlight a notable skills shortage when looking to fill some permanent roles. Professional and managerial roles in particular are sectors where there is a distinct lack of skilled candidates applying for jobs.

"Most employers have retrenched to a much more cautious 'wait and see' approach," noted Roger Tweedy, the REC's director of Research.

"A significant number of businesses still plan to take on new staff during the course of year, despite the slight change in mood."

The report also showed a positive outlook in the temporary sector despite the agency worker regulations coming into force.
