Employees worst fear is their image when public speaking PDF Print E-mail
Employees worst fear is their image when public speakingPersonal image is the biggest issue that faces workers when giving presentations or public speaking.

This is according to Susan Heaton-Wright, vocal and body language expert at executivevoice.co.uk, who said that personal appearance and what they sound like sparks fear.

People in finance jobs in London and other experienced and highly-skilled roles may often find that they have to give a presentation at work.

Ms Heaton-Wright advised employees to master a basic technique for preparing a speech, as well as rehearsing it and being mentally prepared to stand up in front of people.

"Also, the performance starts when you enter the building or room," the expert added. "I've seen speakers fall asleep on the stage and then leap into action when they have to do their speech.

"Another challenge is to ensure you have your technical material tested and ready to work when you start the presentation. A number of times I have sat through speakers who haven't even switched on their laptop, let alone check to see everything is working. It does nothing for your reputation and puts you on your back foot before you've started the speech."

Her tips come after the Recruitment and Employment Confederation reported that businesses will plan to increase their hiring this year while remaining cautious.
