Are experienced employees more likely to take on flexible working? PDF Print E-mail
Are experienced employees more likely to take on flexible working?Older generations of workers could be driven towards flexible working just as much as the younger employees who expect the practice, one expert has suggested.

Experienced admin staff and people in other established roles will find that flexible working will become more important because of family commitments and pressures, and employers in return will get greater staff engagement and retention, Dr Graeme Codrington, a futurist at Tomorrowtoday.uk.com, said.

While remote and flexible working has been a top-rated engagement policy for the last decade, the expert also suggested that employees born in the 1950s and 60s will also take advantage of it.

He suggested that as this generation choose to work beyond retirement and come back to work part-time, flexibility will be incredibly important.

"They're going to get a taste for remote working and they're probably going to like it," he claimed.

"My prediction … is that remote working will be driven as much by older generations as younger. For different reasons, they will all want the same thing – and that means it will happen at pace."

Mr Codrington's comments come after research from the Department for Work and Pensions found that age discrimination is still rooted in British society.
